Police say the cars were stolen from a garage at 165 13th St. in Oakland. Four of them were recovered within a one-and-a-half-mile radius of the parking garage where they were stolen from.

The stolen cars included two owned by the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, two owned by another county agency and a car belonging to a rental company, authorities said.

The suspected thief, Darryl Roach, 56, of Oakland, was pulled over after an AC Transit deputy saw him driving one of the stolen cars and taken into custody on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle, according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.

Crime scene technicians responded to the garage where the cars were stolen from and collected evidence. It's unclear whether anyone else took part in the thefts.

Deputies said they will review protocols to prevent unauthorized access to the county facility.

The sheriff's office asks that anyone with more information on the incident contact deputies at 510-667-7721.
