East Bay Landmark Left With 'Significant' Damage After Blaze

"This incident is a sobering reminder of how precious and vulnerable places like this are," The Peralta House Museum officials said.

Nobody was injured during the fire at Peralta House Museum, and the cause of the blaze remains unclear.

"This incident is a sobering reminder of how precious and vulnerable places like this are," museum officials said in a social media post. "The Peralta House Museum is not just a building. It's where our community comes to discover, question, and connect with the complicated, layered story of Oakland."

Museum hours have been paused while officials work to air out the building. The Peralta House Museum ACE camp will continue as usual, officials said, adding that the camp area is unaffected and safe for kids.

Meanwhile, officials are asking for the public's help in preserving the 156-year-old landmark.

A fundraiser has been started to help restore the building from the damage and prepare for future challenges, according to officials.

"Historic landmarks need a community behind them," museum officials said. "If you believe this place deserves to be protected and passed down to future generations, please consider supporting us today."
