OAKLAND, CA — An 18-year-old man is facing charges of assault and robbery after a violent attack in Oakland that left a 15-year-old with serious injuries, Alameda County prosecutors said.

Prosecutors say Jaeden Roach and four other co-conspirators lied in wait for the victim behind an apartment complex in the 3400 block of 68th Avenue in Oakland on Thursday, June 25.

The 15-year-old arrived at the complex around 3:15 p.m., and that's when the group attacked, according to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.

It's unclear if the suspects and the victim knew each other before the attack. The suspects, according to prosecutors, used handguns to beat the victim, who was left with serious injuries during the attack.

It's unclear whether authorities have identified any other suspects involved in the June attack.

Prosecutors on Friday announced they had filed charges of assault with a firearm, robbery and felony child endangerment against Roach.

They did not say whether the 18-year-old was in custody. He is due in court on Monday for a hearing, authorities said.
