• FAAS After The Ball Gala Celebrates 15th Anniversary (alamedapost.com) — Alameda's Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter is marking 15 years of its After the Ball gala with a major fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 16 at Gold Bar Whiskey Distillery. The event supports medical care and daily operations for the city's homeless animals, including the Starfish Medical Fund for emergency treatment. Organizers emphasize how community donations directly help local pets find safety and new homes.
   

• Alameda replaces aging Wood Middle School with modernized campus (asumag.com) — Wood Middle School in Alameda has been completely rebuilt, replacing its worn 1965-era classrooms and temporary buildings with a modern, accessible campus focused on safety and contemporary learning. The new two-story academic building adds 24 classrooms, a larger gym, and updated media and administrative spaces, following years of planning by Alameda Unified School District.
