Suspect Linked To Body Found Bound And Buried In East Bay

Police say the victim's face was covered with duct tape when officers found his body.

OAKLAND, CA — A man was charged in the killing of another man who was found bound and buried in Oakland two months ago.

Prosecutors say Sergio Omar Flores killed Gaspar Sanchez-Juarez and then buried his body in Oakland. It's unclear exactly when the killing happened.

Investigators were informed on June 4 that someone had possibly buried a body in the 500 block of 34th Street, according to the Oakland Police Department.

Investigators conducted interviews and identified a possible burial site, authorities said. On June 9, investigators found Sanchez-Juarez's buried remains, authorities said.

He had been bound, and duct tape covered his face, Alameda County prosecutors said. An autopsy revealed Sanchez-Juarez was killed, police said.

Flores was identified as a suspect and taken into custody late last month, police said.

Alameda County prosecutors have since charged Flores with murder. It's unclear if the suspect and victim knew each other.
