2 Convicted For Oakland Shootout That Killed 18-Year-Old Woman: DA

OAKLAND, CA — Two men were found guilty of their roles in the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old woman in Oakland just over two years ago, prosecutors said.

Jurors found Derrick McIntyre, 49, and Silasomari Bryant, 33, guilty of second-degree murder involving the use of a firearm in the slaying of Bre'Elle Vercher in Oakland on May 22, 2024.

Vercher wasn't the intended target that fateful day, Alameda County prosecutors said.

Bryant and McIntyre argued over the phone and in person that evening, prompting them to meet up at the corner of Manila Street and West MacArthur Boulevard, according to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.

The two men fired at each other and missed, but struck Vercher twice in the back, prosecutors said.

Vercher was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries, prosecutors said.

"Bre'Elle Vercher lost her life when a personal dispute escalated into deadly gunfire," District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson said. "This verdict holds the defendant accountable and reflects the jury's careful consideration of the evidence."
