OAKLAND, CA — Police say they've arrested a suspect wanted in connection with at least two violent robberies in Oakland, including one that ended in a shootout.
The suspect, wearing a mask and armed with a rifle, first robbed a store in the 2600 block of 14th Avenue on Aug. 19, according to the Oakland Police Department.
The suspect went in demanding money, and the employee grabbed a gun, leading to a gunfight between the two, police said.
Nobody was injured during the shootout, police said. The suspect injured a woman while robbing her of her purse in the 1600 block of 8th Avenue on Aug. 26, police said.
Investigators, using video surveillance and license plate recognition technology, linked the suspect to both robberies, police said.
Authorities identified the suspect as a 28-year-old, and they were taken into custody in connection with the robberies, police said.
A woman with the suspect was also arrested on an outstanding warrant and firearm-related charges after officers recovered a loaded handgun, police said.
Following a search warrant, officers discovered two more loaded guns: an AR-style pistol and an unregistered pistol, police said.
The suspect, whom police did not identify, has since been charged in connection with the robberies, police said.
