OAKLAND, CA — A tip to the Oakland Police Department's drug hotline led to the arrest of an alleged Bay Area firearm trafficker and the seizure of firearms, narcotics, and equipment used to manufacture privately made guns known as ghost guns, police said.
On Sept. 22, officers from the department's Intelligence Unit directed the Crime Reduction Team West to the 500 block of 23rd Avenue, where they detained the suspect during a vehicle stop, police said.
OPD officers recovered a loaded firearm and narcotics packaged for street distribution, according to police.
A subsequent search of the suspect's residence uncovered equipment used to manufacture ghost guns, along with firearm parts, multiple handguns, assault rifles, ammunition and additional narcotics, police noted.
Police also reportedly seized equipment used to produce counterfeit credit cards and checks, including embossers and blank cards.
The case was presented to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, which filed multiple charges related to the investigation.
Police did not identify the suspect or specify the charges in the announcement.
