OAKLAND, CA — The sister of Bay Area reality television star Mackayla Paige was charged with her death after the 29-year-old was killed during a street fight in Oakland early Sunday morning, according to a San Francisco Chronicle report.
Alameda County prosecutors say Paige was fighting with another woman near the 200 block of 14th Street in downtown Oakland before 1:35 a.m., when her sister grabbed a gun and tried to hit the other woman, according to the report.
But the gun went off, hitting Paige in the head and killing her, according to the report.
On Tuesday, Alameda prosecutors filed involuntary manslaughter charges against Paige's sister, 38-year-old Berkeley resident Vernika Dunbar, according to the report.
A disturbing video circulating online appears to show the deadly brawl. Two women can be seen sizing each other up before taking swings.
A second woman holding a gun approaches them and appears to try to hit one of the women. The exact moment the gun goes off is unclear, but within seconds of the woman using the gun to strike, one of the women fighting appears to go limp.
An outpouring of support followed Paige's death. Family and friends gathered at the site of the shooting the following day to honor her memory, according to CBS News.
"If you were a fan of her, she appreciated you. She loved you. All she wanted to do was make people happy," her cousin Azima told NBC.
Paige, also known to fans as "Kash," starred in multiple reality TV shows, including "Young & Reckless" and "Real West Coast Baddies."
