Driver Turns Self In For Fatal Hit-And-Run Of 81-Year-Old Near Lake Merritt: Police

OAKLAND, CA — Police say a driver has turned themselves in on suspicion of fatally striking an 81-year-old man with a car and then fleeing the scene in Oakland earlier this month.

It's unclear what led up to the crash, but it happened on Saturday, Oct. 3, along 17th Street and Lakeside Drive near Lake Merritt, according to the Oakland Police Department.

The victim was identified by police as Eugene Lynch. Police did not identify the person suspected in the fatal hit-and-run.
