Announcement for Ward 4 Board Member - East Bay Regional Parks

This is the official announcement of my candidacy to represent all of Alameda and Ward 4 as Board Member of the East Bay Regional Parks.

Dear Friends,

My name is Daniel Chesmore, and I am honored at the opportunity to serve my neighbors and our communities in Ward 4. Growing up from humble beginnings from immigrant parents, I learned the importance that our parks play in fostering creativity, diversity, and a commitment to environmental sustainability and the betterment of our planet. After attending the University of California, Berkeley, I joined the Oakland Unified School District. I have seen firsthand how parks can provide our youth with a vision of a brighter future regardless of one’s zip code. I have dedicated my life to advancing civil rights, public education, immigrant rights, environmental sustainability, and women’s healthcare. I currently sit on the Board of Directors for Community Learning Center Schools in Alameda. I am a proud resident of Oakland, where I reside with my husband, José. We spend many of our weekends volunteering with the Sierra Club, planting trees throughout polluted inner city-areas in order to actively combat pollution. I head the Financial Planning & Analysis Department at Planned Parenthood Northern California, where I am proud to play an active role in advancing women’s healthcare rights, and healthcare for all regardless of one’s zip code. If it were not for my parks, which inspired me to dream larger than my surroundings, I would not have been blessed with the desire and passion to advance my community. Ward 4 is my community. I am humbled at the opportunity to serve my community based on the knowledge, experience, and relationships that I have built to advance all of our parks, so that all of our children in Alameda, Oakland, Hayward, San Leandro, and San Lorenzo will one day become inspired to become agents of progress and positive change.

I have the financial background to bring projects to full fruition while respecting the integrity and large fiduciary responsibility required to manage public funds. On a daily basis, I work with my extraordinary peers at Planned Parenthood to bring Classroom Services Education to the public, so that we can advance the quality of life within our community. I have built relationships within local, county, and state government throughout my experiences as a public schools board member and as a federal grant reviewer for the California Department of Education. I have the firsthand understanding of what it means to be an immigrant, a person of color, a LGBTQ identifier, someone from a low income background, and someone with the passion and knowledge required to advance our parks and our children to have better opportunities so that they too can one day give back. As Ward 4 Board Member of the East Bay Regional Parks, I pledge to work with our local institutions and our local school districts to provide opportunities in education to all of our students within our beautiful parks. Our families should have a tangible educational experience every time they visit one of our beautiful parks. A child in Anthony Chabot, a child in Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline, a child in Crown Beach, and a child in Oyster Bay should all have the same access to a safe and educational space for their minds to develop and understand the importance of sustainability and how we all have a collective responsibility to pass down the beauty of our parks from generation to generation. The incumbent, Doug Siden, has done a great service for our community, and I am honored at the opportunity to adopt his legacy to advance our parks for all. I pledge to work tirelessly to advance our parks. I pledge to ensure equal access for all families regardless of zip code. Please join me on this mission, and thank you all for your inspiration as it would be my greatest honor to serve you and your families.
