Beware Of Collection Scam, AMP Warns

The municipal utility advises customers to call police if they get one of these calls.

ALAMEDA, CA — Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) is warning residents about a scam that's designed to steal your money.

It works like this: customers receive calls demanding immediate payment on an AMP account. But AMP reports that it never asks for credit card or debit card numbers. In fact, you will not receive a live call from AMP, just automated courtesy calls that accounts are delinquent.

If you ever receive a suspicious call, hang up. Call AMP to see if a problem exists. If not, call police to alert them of the scam.
