Board of Education to Vote on Interim Superintendent Appointment
The vote will take place on Aug. 12.

The Board of Education for the Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) will vote on the appointment of an interim superintendent at its meeting on Tuesday, August 12, 2014.
If approved, the candidate, Sean McPhetridge, Ed.D., will step into his new role on August 13, 2014. His proposed contract extends through June 30, 2015.

Dr. McPhetridge most recently served as the interim director of student programs and services at the Alameda County Office of Education. He served as AUSD’s assistant superintendent from 2010 to 2013. During his 9-year tenure with the district, he also worked as the principal of the Alameda Science and Technology Institute (2005-2008); director of secondary and career technical education (also 2005-2008); and instructional vice principal at Alameda High School (2000-2003). He holds a Doctorate in Education from Harvard University.
Assistant Superintendent Barbara E. Adams, Ed.D. is serving as acting superintendent until the appointment. Dr. Adams, who also received her doctorate from Harvard University, has worked as a principal and chief academic officer in districts across the country, including Portland and Boston. She has been with AUSD for two years.

Former superintendent Kirsten Vital left AUSD on August 1, 2014 to become superintendent of Capistrano Unified School District.
The Board of Education will discuss Dr. McPhetridge’s appointment during closed session on August 12 and vote on his appointment in open session. Public comments for closed session will begin at 5 pm at City Hall; public comments for open session will begin at 6:30 pm.
