<p>This gentle Hatha Yoga Flow class provides an uplifting experience through thoughtful movements and mindful breathing. <h4>A Benefit Concert to Support Earthquake Relief in Venezuela</h4>
<p>Curated by multi-instrumentalist/producer, Jackeline Rago, <em>Venezuela Vibra y Renace</em> supports Venezuelan musicians and artists deeply affected by the recent earthquakes and the ongoing challenges in their communities. As the country gradually resumes its economic activity, musical events, celebrations, and cultural activities are still largely on pause. Many musicians have lost the ability to work and face extremely difficult circumstances. Some have lost their homes and belongings in the earthquakes, while others have been evicted following formal inspections by local authorities.</p>
<p>The goal of <em>Venezuela Vibra y Renace</em> is to raise funds to support musicians who are struggling to survive while using music and dance as tools for community connection and recovery. The funds will help cover essential expenses for the participating artists—including transportation, food, and a basic honorarium—so they can bring live music and dance to some of the communities most affected.</p>
<p>These performances are envisioned as interactive experiences, rather than traditional concerts. Community members will be invited to sing, play, dance, and participate alongside the artists. In this way, the project can provide both direct support to local musicians and a meaningful opportunity for communities to reconnect, celebrate their culture, and begin healing together.</p>
<p>Let’s come together in solidarity, unite our strength, and support communities in need. Pay what you can afford from the range of ticket options and help raise as much as possible for earthquake relief.</p>

<p>Soma is a Greek word that means "living body in its wholeness." Somatic Yoga is a movement practice that focuses on feeling our living body from the inside. We do this by bringing our awareness to our breath and sensations as we move slowly through different poses, notice our shifting of weight, and bring our curiosity to the shapes we embody. Class will begin with breath awareness and slow, fluid movements to bring us into deeper contact with our sense of Self.&nbsp;</p>
<p><br>The exercises will be intrinsically strengthening, like how a baby develops muscular tone gently over time. The class will include seated poses and a standing asana slow-flow practice in which we will bring our inner awareness and breath to each pose and transition.</p>
<p><br>Class will end with a return to the floor, noticing the changes in how we are making contact with ourselves and our environment. Somatic Yoga will be a movement journey that guides you to experience the Fullness of You.<br></p>

<p>Restorative Yoga is a meditative form of yoga that emphasizes stillness, deep relaxation, and conscious breathing. In this practice, the body is fully supported with props such as bolsters, blankets, and blocks, allowing practitioners to hold gentle yoga poses for extended periods without strain. This supportive environment creates space for the nervous system to relax and for the breath to deepen, encouraging a state of calm and mindfulness. The slow pace and passive approach help to cultivate awareness of the present moment, making it a grounding and introspective experience.</p>
<p>Expect a sequence of soothing poses, including hip openers, gentle twists, and other restorative postures designed to release tension and enhance mobility. These poses are not meant to stretch the body to its limits but rather to open it up gradually, both physically and mentally. As the body relaxes and opens, so too does the mind, creating a sense of spaciousness and ease.</p>
<p>Restorative Yoga offers a sanctuary from the demands of daily life, providing an opportunity to reconnect with oneself through breath, stillness, and conscious rest.</p>

<p>OJC is very excited to present this collaborative musical event featuring Stephanie Crawford!<br>She is an internationally acclaimed singer and that rare bird: a black trans vocal musician in the exceedingly straight jazz world.</p><p>Born in 1942, she grew up in Detroit, Michigan, during the Golden Age of modern jazz. Always a lover of music, she did not, however, sing in public until she was 36, after working on a Chrysler assembly line and as a short-order cook, and earning a bachelor’s degree in painting from Wayne State University. Along the way, at age 26, she also underwent a new “male-to-female gender reassignment surgery” offered by the University of Michigan.</p><p>Having studied with renowned bop pianist Barry Harris in New York, she migrated to Paris, where she remained for several years, performing and teaching at prestigious schools of music, various festivals, and venues such as The Duc des Lombards, The Sunset, New Morning, and a host of other establishments, winning the Django D’Or award for Best International Jazz Vocalist. In New York, she has performed in such famed venues as Wigstock, The Pyramid, Sweet Basil, The Blue Note, Jazzmania, and Barry Harris Jazz Cultural Theatre, among others.
