Beginning July 1, use of the city-sponsored electric vehicle (EV) charging stations located inside the Civic Center Garage, 1420 Oak Street, will no longer be free.
Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) was able to offer free charging at this location as part of a pilot program that began in 2012. With the pilot program completed and the grant funds exhausted, the City of Alameda is initiating a charging fee to cover costs associated with the use and maintenance of the stations.

Drivers can use EV charging stations at the Oak Street location for the price of parking and a fee that varies according to the voltage of the vehicle. The charging stations are part of the ChargePoint network. EV owners can pay the fee at the stations by waving their ChargePoint card in front of the station, by using the ChargePoint mobile app or by calling the toll free number located on the charging station. Drivers can sign up for ChargePoint membership at https://na.chargepoint.com/register.
A new charging location will soon be available at AMP’s service Center at 2000 Grand Street.
