Elders Village Offering Laughter Yoga Class in Alameda This Week

Laughter Yoga, what exactly is it? It’s based on the belief that voluntary laughter provides the same physiological and psychological benefits as spontaneous laughter. Laughter relaxes the entire body by releasing endorphins, which in turn, help promote an overall sense of well-being. When laughter is combined with breathing exercises, it can produce great health benefits for everyone. Developed in 1955, by Dr. Madan Kataria in Mumbai, India, Laughter Yoga has swiftly expanded worldwide. Today, there are nearly 8000 laughter yoga clubs spanning 65 countries.
Laughter Yoga can be performed by anyone. People of all ages, fitness and cognitive levels can participate. Best of all, one doesn’t have practice the traditional yoga poses, nor be in a good mood to take part and gain benefits. There is no special clothing or equipment required and it can be practiced anywhere and anytime.
Laughing for a sustained period of time is key to reaping the health benefits of laughter yoga. Classes routinely help students laugh steadily for 15 to 20 minutes. The results? Laughter yoga can help promote health and wellness for caregivers and seniors alike including increased oxygen intake and blood flow, improved blood vessel function, and lower blood pressure. This helps protect your heart, boosts energy and helps reduce stress.
