Despite Rumors to the Contrary, Alameda's Acapulco Restaurant is Not Closing

You get enough tips, and it's time to investigate.

I called over to yesterday morning after another Patch reader told me that they'd heard the Alameda landmark was shutting its doors.

Not so, said owner Laurance Quintero, who has worked in the family business since he was 1o. His first job, he says, was washing dishes as a boy.

"Yes, we have put the business up for sale," Quintero said. "But we are not closing."

The family opened the doors of Acapulco in 1953, and in May they will enter their 58th year of business.

Generations of family members currently work at the Lincoln Avenue Mexican restaurant, Quintero said. 

"It's mainly the second and many of the third generation," Quintero said. 

Quintero says he is grateful for Acapulco customers, many of whom have been dining at the restaurant for decades.

"We appreciate the generations of families that have been coming here," Quintero said. "A lot of them are good friends, like family. We have some of the best customers you could ask for, and I look forward to seeing them."
