Encinal Robotics Team Wins Judges Award

From an Alameda Unified School District community bulletin:
On April 27 and 28, the Encinal High Robotics Team and students from 23 other Bay Area schools competed in the UC Berkeley Pioneers in Engineering (PiE) Robotics Competition at the Lawrence Hall of Science.
The team from Encinal spent eight weeks working and preparing for the PiE competition. For the final team competition, on Sunday they joined forces with the team from Ralph Bunche High School from Oakland, made it through all the elimination rounds, reached the championship and ended in second place in the overall competition!

Encinal's team we also won the coveted Judges Award for Best Mechanical Design, a significant honor since it is awarded by Professors of UC Berkeley's Engineering Department.
Congratulations to all, including team co-captain and mechanical Lead Dat Hua; team co-captain and programmer lead Victor Chu; team members Angela Wu, Ingrid Rodriguez, Gabriella Ramirez, Kobe Schwinges-Williams, Ashish Ratna Manandhar, Kim Wong, Stephen Ouyang, Marcello Predovic, Jay Justin Feria, Bobby Ching, Brandon Allen Edquilang; and additional team members who helped out during the eight weeks of completion work, Peter Ka-Wai, Joseph Quach, Armando Negrete, Paolo J Baquiran, Sione Abellera Muni Ealelei, Ethan Ryan, Brandon Chow.

Encinal DECA Succeeds at International Conference
Also last month, Encinal High DECA students competed and performed well at the DECA International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, CA. This competition hosted approximately 17,000 students from around the world.
We are proud to report many student successes in Anaheim. In his first year as an Encinal DECA member, Demetri Tyler performed well in the area of Quick Serve Management. As a Sophomore, Daniel McCormick competed in Automotive Service and is ranked the top 35 internationally. Kelly McCormick had great success for the second year in a row. Last year her rank was 7thinternationally. This year she moved up even higher and placed 4thinternationally!
DECA provides educational and leadership development activities for students outside of class to merge with learning in the classroom in order to teach the skills for a successful career in business. DECA's goal is for its members to develop skills to carry with them into their professional and personal lives after graduation.
