A.C.C.E.S.S. Fair

On Saturday, November 5th, the 2nd bi-annual resource fair, A.C.C.E.S.S. Alameda Cares: Citizens Engage Supportive Services, will be held at the College of Alameda’s Student Center (555 Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway, Building “F”) from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Over 40 participating organizations will be available at the A.C.C.E.S.S. Resource Fair to discuss services they provide either free or sliding scale to members of the community. Participants range from federal, state, county, and local nonprofit organizations to groups involved with adaptive sports, as well as attorney advocates, accessible housing specialists, and attendant care services.

Partnering organizations include the College of Alameda Programs and Services for Students with Disabilities (DSPS) and the Alameda Unified School District Special Education. "We are very excited to collaborate with the City o Alameda’s Commission on Disability Issues to provide information to the community about resources available for persons with disabilities," adds Helene Maxwell, Coordinator, Programs and Services for Students with Disabilities, College of Alameda.

Local as well as county-wide organizations will be represented. Event highlights include an accessible yoga class for people seated or in wheelchairs and short presentations from various non-profit organizations. A schedule of presentations will be posted to the City’s website address: http://www.cityofalamedaca.gov/City-Hall/Commission-on-Disability-Issues.

Free chair massage will be provided by McKinnon Body Therapy Center. Parents with children may drop by the Activities table to enjoy spin art or face painting.

Free shuttle transportation, provided by Measure B funds, is available throughout the duration of the event. Pick-up points include Leydecker Parks & Recreation building, City Hall Parking Lot, and at Whitehall Place (in the South Shore parking lot). City of Alameda Commission on Disability Issues – The purpose of the Commission is to provide information and recommendations to the City Council regarding disability issues in support of the City’s interest in encouraging persons with disabilities to become an integral part of the community.
