Alameda Budget Challenge Workshop with Next 10, League of Women Voters of Alameda

How would you solve the City of Alameda’s projected $4.4 million budget deficit for fiscal year 2012-2013?

Take the Alameda Budget Challenge with your friends and neighbors on Wednesday, March 14, at a workshop cosponsored by the League of Women Voters® of Alameda (LWVA) and the City of Alameda. The session will be from 7:00 – 9:00 pm in the Mastick Senior Center Social Hall at 1155 Santa Clara Avenue in Alameda.

You can roll up your sleeves and create a balanced city budget at this interactive session and reduce Alameda’s anticipated $4.4 million budget shortfall for 2012-2013. Sarah Henry, Program Director at Next 10, will present the budget challenge. Fred Marsh and Terri Wright from the City of Alameda will be there to answer participants’ budget questions. All are welcome at this free event.

The Alameda Budget Challenge is modeled after Next 10’s California Budget Challenge, which is an exercise in creative community problem-solving. Next 10, a San Francisco-based nonpartisan and nonprofit organization, developed the California Budget Challenge, the Alameda Budget Challenge, and other programs to “(provide) information that fosters a deeper understanding of the critical issues affecting all Californians…through education and civic engagement,” in order to help Californians “become empowered to effect change.”

The League of Women Voters of Alameda, a nonpartisan 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization, offers voter service and citizen education activities to increase citizen participation, study community issues, and support positive public policy solutions.
