International Literacy Day is celebrated all over the world. Look at the calendar below to find out what Alameda Reads is doing to celebrate Literacy Month.
"Alameda Reads has been helping adults learn to read and write since 1985. A service of the Alameda Free Library, it began as the Alameda Adult Literacy Program with state grant money provided by the California Library Services Act.
It was established to meet a community need -- helping the estimated 5,000 adults in Alameda with low reading and writing skills to become more literate. Since 1990, the Literacy Program has been funded primarily through the City of Alameda Free Library. Money is also received from state and local grants, and donations."
