USS Hornet Apollo Splashdown Anniversary with Special Guest Astronaut Jose M. Hernandez

Join us for a fun-filled day of space exploration & science as we celebrate Hornet’s participation in the lunar missions! Meet retired NASA astronaut Jose M. Hernandez.

At 1 p.m. Hernandez will talk about his flight aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery as part of STS-128 and the time spent at the International Space Station and will be followed by a meet and greet. He will also be present for the unveiling of an exhibit highlighting his accomplishments with NASA. Hornet trustee Robert Fish will be the MC and will give a brief presentation on the Congressional Gold Medal held at the US Capitol last fall honoring the Apollo 11 astronauts.

As part of the day’s events, NASA Ames will provide an astronaut space suit display. Also, the NASA Ames robotics department will provide interactive robot demonstrations and games for children.
