This class is based on the curriculum established by the
ECSI, Emergency Care and Safety Institute and WMS, Wilderness Medical Society’s core training program. It is not a glorified first aid program and will cover
extreme injuries, such as pelvic fractures, femur fractures, and skull fractures, major injuries to spine, serious chest wounds and procedures for handing these many other medical emergencies. We will show you and have you
improvise traction splints, pelvic splints and handle major trauma incidents that could save the lives of people you travel with. Bites from brown recluse, black widows, snakes, animals and humans will be covered; anaphylaxis, diabetes and other major problems will be part of the scenarios.
You will learn to think on your feet, improvise solutions to
major injuries and help save lives. CPR/AED is not a part of this course. This is the first part of the two day BSA approved Wilderness First Aid course-but
it will teach you the essential nuts and bolts of handling the serious emergencies effectively and making the hard decisions such as when to evacuate the victim or when you must leave the victim and find help fast. This is far
more than an advanced first aid course.
From the quick 10 second look to the detailed head to toe
examination you will learn the basic to help other survive and live to travel again in time of crisis.
The class is limited to 12 slots; certificate for Wilderness
First Aid (for 2 years) will be issued for this 8 hour course with the option to take phase 2 at a later date to complete
requirements for the 16 hour course. Handouts of slides
included, text and reference materials sold separately. Registration fee is $50
