FREE Helmet Giveaway at Alameda Elks Bike Safety Clinics

The Alameda Elks Lodge along with the City of Alameda, have designated May 30, 2015 through June 7, 2015, ALAMEDA ELKS BIKE SAFETY WEEK to educate the city’s elementary school age children on bike safety, riding proficiency, importance of wearing a helmet and the value of getting their bikes registered.
The first Bike Safety Clinic will be held on Saturday, May 30th in the Elks Lodge parking lot located at 2255 Santa Clara Avenue, running from 10AM until 2PM. The program, for children age K-5, is taught by a certified instructor, and will provide bike safety checks, a bike proficiency test, and education on street-riding safety. Parents can register the bikes with the Alameda Fire Department for $5 per bike. There will be a second program on Saturday June 7 at 10AM through 2PM in the Elks parking lot as well. Children who pass the proficiency testing will be given a certificate.
The Elks will give out FREE BIKE HELMETS to all children who do not already have one (while supplies last). Hot dogs and drinks are FREE for the kids in the program, and $1.50 for parents and other guests.

During the outdoor program, parents are encouraged to come inside the Lodge to receive important information about bike safety, bike paths around the island, and to tour the Historic Alameda Elks Lodge. Information about the many community programs sponsored by the Alameda Elks is also available.
In addition, on Tuesday June 2nd, the Alameda City Council will be presenting a proclamation signed by Mayor Trish Spencer proclaiming May 30-June 7 Alameda Elks Bike Safety Week in Alameda.
