Free Stroke Assessments In Alameda This Week

Alameda Hospital is offering the medical tests at Mastick Senior Center.

ALAMEDA, CA — Strokes are the leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the United States. Each year, nearly 800,000 people in the U.S. suffer a stroke. The majority occur in people over the age of 65.

Alameda Hospital, a certified primary stroke center, is offering free stroke assessments on May 18 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Assessments will take place at the Mastick Senior Center, Social Hall, 1155 Santa Clara Avenue, Alameda.

  • Body mass index
  • Finger stick blood test for total cholesterol
  • Blood glucose screening for diabetes
  • Quick-look EKG for heart rhythm abnormalities
