AES Therapy & Fitness is proud to announce its first ever contract with SilverSneakers and Silver&Fit, gym membership programs for seniors that are included with many Medicare Advantage plans. AES can now provide affordable personal training, group exercise classes, health coaching, and access to gym equipment for local seniors throughout Alameda.

SilverSneakers and Silver&Fit are national programs that encourage seniors 65+ at all levels of fitness to defy the odds and shatter stereotypes. Seniors can partake in a variety of classes - such as yoga, kickboxing, Tai Chi, aerobics, and Total Body Toning - that improve mobility, strength, and balance.

For over a decade, the focus of AES Therapy & Fitness was serving the residents of AEC Living’s Assisted Living Facilities. However, we began noticing a lack of affordable and accessible options for senior therapy and fitness on the island. For some seniors, you would have to choose between fitness and other necessities such as rent or food. We are excited that options for local seniors who are living on fixed incomes are now expanding.

Our new partnership helps us keep a larger percentage of our local senior population healthy. Alameda seniors will no longer have to cross the tunnel to receive high-quality fitness programs. There are thirty SilverSneakers and Silver&Fit participants so far and we are always open to accommodating arising needs of both individuals and groups.

Being a Medicare-licensed facility, we follow stringent guidelines regarding safety, cleanliness, and accessibility. Gyms are sometimes not safe for seniors, and they can get exposed to germs and physical hazards inside the facility and on equipment. Nurses and Therapists are on hand to respond to sudden changes in health.

AES Therapy & Fitness has partnered with several medical groups and Physicians to provide prescribed fitness for seniors. We work closely with Bay Area therapists, trainers, and fitness professionals to broaden the spectrum of services available and add the latest interventions to our programming.

SilverSneakers and Silver&Fit participants can take part in any class as often as they like. We recommend exercising at least twice a week to see a noticeable change in balance and strength. Building a community of seniors, as a senior, is very important —and that’s the kind of camaraderie AES classes offer.

Key features of the contract include:

  • ●Clinically-Based Classes
  • ●Customized Counseling for common ailments such as heart disease, stroke, chronic pain, pulmonary issues, and a history of falling
  • ●Assessments by an Exercise Physiologist
  • ●SilverSneakers Classic offered 2-3 times per week depending on location
  • ●Open Gym where equipment is available for your use with the supervision of a Certified Personal Trainer (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Webster Street location and 4:00 - 5:00 PM Monday thru Friday at the Island Drive location)
  • ●Reduced Personal Training Fees

There is no better feeling than knowing you are among friends and supportive individuals when joining a new fitness program. We are pleased to provide not only affordable fitness options for Alameda’s seniors, but peace of mind at a critical point in their lives. We hope to guide and motivate SilverSneakers and Silver&Fit members to make fitness a permanent part of their lifestyle.
