High School Students Achieve In and Out of the Classroom: Two Recent Highlights

Women's and men's cross-country teams at Alameda High, DECA participants at Encinal High shine.

From an Alameda Unified School District bulletin:

At last week’s meeting of the Board of Education the Board honored the Alameda High School women’s and men’s Cross-Country teams and their coaches for each winning the NCS Scholastic Award.

The AHS women’s team earned its scholastic award with the very highest GPA in their division, a remarkable team GPA of 3.86, unweighted. (Since many members of the team are enrolled in AP and honors courses, the team’s weighted GPA is even higher.) The women’s team also finished 4th at the North Coast Section (NCS) championships and had one member of the team qualify for the state championship tournament.

The AHS men’s team earned its scholastic award with the second highest GPA in their division with a team GPA of 3.41, unweighted. The men’s team made it past the NCS championships all the way to the state championship tournament for the fourth year in a row, finishing 13th in the state. Congratulations to these remarkable student athletes and their coaches and thank you to all who support our high school athletic programs.

In another great success combining work inside and outside of the classroom, last month 39 Encinal High DECA students competed in the Nor Cal DECA Conference against 868 students from across northern California and made an outstanding showing, with 21 students getting on stage at the conference for recognition.
