Jackknifed FedEx Semi Causes I-880 Closure

A crash involving a semi and 4 other vehicles happened on I-880, near the 7th Street exit.

OAKLAND, CA — A crash involving a jackknifed FedEx semi and four other vehicles caused major injuries, and forced the complete closure of southbound lanes on I-880 in Oakland near the 7th Street offramp. The crash was reported at 1:41 a.m. Thursday, according to the Caifornia Highway Patrol.

In addition, two crashes have been reported on northbound I-880 in Oakland between 4 and 4:40 a.m. No injuries were reported. Two more wrecks happened in the northbound lanes in the 5 a.m. hour - one in Oakland and the other in San Lorenzo.

The CHP, tow truck crews, CalTrans and other workers made quick work of the southbound mess, clearing the roadway so the Sig-alert could be cancelled at 4:03 a.m.

There is no update on the condition of the crash victims.

Drivers should be extra careful this morning as localized flooding has been reported on area freeways.
