Lola's Chicken Shack Wins Award From StopWaste

The popular restaurant on Park Street cuts waste by reducing disposable food ware

Lola’s Chicken Shack on Park Street has been honored with a 2016 StopWaste Business Efficiency Award for Excellence in Reducing Disposable Food Service Ware. Owners Nancy and Mark Rogers were recognized for eliminating over 60,000 disposable food service ware items each year, by replacing single-use plastic water cups with reusable cups, switching from plastic stir sticks to reusable spoons and offering sugar in bulk dispensers instead of individual packages. Besides cutting annual garbage by 1,400 pounds and preventing litter, the changes save $3,200 annually on food service ware, while reducing staff time previously spent handling disposables. Lola’s had worked with ReThink Disposable, a campaign supported by StopWaste, to implement the changes.
