Oakland Airport Runway: Federal Grant Will Pay For Resurfacing
Take offs and landings are about to get smoother in Oakland.
OAKLAND, CA —Oakland International Airport is getting a $4.5 million federal grant to rehabilitate the airport's main commercial air carrier runway, Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Oakland, said today.
The $4,594,953 from the U.S. Department of Transportation will be used to make sure the airport's runway infrastructure can function safely and efficiently.
Runway 12/30 got its last pavement overlay in 2001. That extended the runway's life of service by 15 years, but airport officials say it's due for another. They plan to overlay roughly 7,800 linear feet of paving and to replace the centerline lighting.
