Olympic Star Cashes In On Free Ice Cream Promise From East Bay Business

Oakland's Fenton Creamery promised the Olympic star free ice cream following her historic win at the Winter Games.

OAKLAND, CA — For months, customers at Fentons Creamery in Oakland had one question: "Has Alysa been in yet?"

The popular ice cream shop promised Olympic star and Oakland native Alysa Liu free ice cream in February, following her historic win for Team USA at the winter games in Milan.

The business even made the offer a little sweeter, creating a new ice cream flavor honoring the 20-year-old called "Alysa's Gold."

On Monday, Fenton's Creamery announced Liu had cashed in on their promise, stopping by the shop to try her signature flavor.

"Alysa came in for takeout tonight, keeping things low-key with a baseball cap, but was kind enough to snap a photo with Luis," the shop said in a post on Facebook. "Best of all, she loved her flavor!"

The signature flavor is a caramel ice cream with golden Oreos and a caramel swirl.

Liu made waves earlier this year by winning the country's first gold medal in figure skating in more than 20 years.

She returned to the Bay Area to a hero's welcome and later made a surprise appearance on "The Tonight Show."
