Pearl Harbor Remembrance Ceremony Held In Alameda

ALAMEDA, CA —The Coast Guard held a remembrance ceremony Thursday at Coast Guard Island in Alameda to mark the 76th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Capt. Nathan Moore, the chief of staff of Coast Guard Pacific Area, addressed Pearl Harbor survivors, World War II veterans and active-duty Coast Guardsmen who attended the ceremony.

"We are here to honor the selfless sacrifice of those who lost their lives that day in 1941 and those that went on to defend the nation in World War II," said Moore. "We must maintain an alert and capable force to ensure we are ready to respond with the same courage and commitment as those who fought at Pearl Harbor."

The ceremony also included a historical display, a musical tribute, the laying of a wreath and a moment of silence in honor of those lost during the attack.
