Rotary Club of Alameda Announces $30,000 In Community Grants
Grant requirements and applications are due by November 14, 2014.

The Rotary Club of Alameda is currently soliciting requests for $500 and $1000 grants from the city’s non-profit organizations who operate programs promoting art and culture, deliver essential services to residents in need, run community service projects, and support youth and families.
“We are hoping to get a large number of applications for the Season of Giving grant project and support as many of the organizations that contribute to the quality of life we all enjoy here in Alameda as we can”, said Deb Knowles, President of the club. The Club will award a total of $15,000 at its December 2nd grant in May of 2015.

Money for the community grants program comes from fundraising activities and events Rotary sponsors through out the year. On Thursday, November 13th “New England Style” Lobster Feed at the Alameda Elks Lodge Rathskeller beginning at 5:30 p.m.

“Basically, the chefs take shrimp, onions, fresh artichokes, potatoes, corn on the cob, whole bulbs of garlic, and other goodies and boil them in huge pots. They add in the lobsters when the other items are cooked, drain out the water, and then pour everything directly on the table. We deliver lemon slices, drawn butter, and a big bib for each guest and the fun begins.”

The Rotary Club of Alameda and its Endowment Foundation are also the sponsors of the popular summer music series Concerts at the Cove.
“Thanks to the efforts of many Rotarians volunteering their time, numerous community sponsors, our production partner East Bay Regional Park District, and all the residents that came out to enjoy the free concerts this year, the club raised over $14,000 towards the community grants program.” said Jeff Cambra who also co-chairs the concert series.
Rotary Club of Alameda is a leadership organization comprised of local business, professional and civic leaders, who meet weekly for fellowship, listen to speakers on a wide range of topics, and organize projects to benefit the community.
