White House Photographer Keynotes East Bay Leadership Dinner

DIABLO, CA – Pete Souza, a former White House photographer to President Barack Obama and President Ronald Reagan, will share his stories behind iconic photographs as the keynote speaker at next week's East Bay Leadership Council dinner in Diablo.

"If a picture is worth a thousand words, then knowing the story behind a photograph is where you really cash in," said East Bay Leadership Council, an organization that works to improve the economic vitality and quality of life in East Bay.

The East Bay USA: Featuring Pete Souza event is Jan. 18 at the Diablo Country Club, 1700 Club House Road in Diablo, with registration closing Jan. 10. Cocktail hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with doors opening for dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Souza will unveil untold stories behind these presidents’ lives through his photography and describe each candid moment that he captured and the story it tells the world.

"Pete Souza was the Chief Official White House Photographer for President Obama and President Reagan. During Obama's eight years as president, Pete took close to two million photographs," the group said. "To truly document both of the presidents' lives, Pete would take on the responsibility of attending every meeting the president was a part of, all the time. It was important for him to capture the president not just as a leader, but as a human being.

"In addition to the national political scene, Pete has covered stories around the world. After 9/11, he was among the first journalists to cover the fall of Kabul, Afghanistan, after crossing the Hindu Kush mountains by horseback in three feet of snow."
