Teacher Pay Hike Approved By School Board

ALAMEDA, CA — The Alameda school board approved a 4.5 percent salary increase for teachers, nurses, speech and language pathologists, and counselors at this week's school board meeting. The contract was hammered out between Alameda Unified School District and the teachers union, Alameda Education Association

In addition to the pay raise, the contract includes:
• an additional Professional Development day for AEA members
• Create employee longevity compensation for years of service to AUSD

“The teachers ratified this contract a few weeks ago, and we are glad the District has now
made it official with their vote,” says AEA President Judith Klinger. “Our teachers, counselors,
nurses and SLPs work incredibly hard for their students, and this raise is a good step in the
right direction. As the anchors of this community’s stellar school system, we will continue to
push hard for fair compensation.”

Unrepresented employees, principals, and other management staff will also receive the 4.5%
increase. CSEA-27 and CSEA-860 both accepted 4.5% raises in August, 2018.

“Increasing employee compensation is a priority of both the Board and AUSD’s executive
management,” says Superintendent Sean McPhetridge. “I laud the work of all of our
negotiating teams in working together and getting these salary increases to our employees
this year.”

Adds Board President Mia Bonta, “The Board of Education was thrilled to approve this salary
increase. We know these negotiations are not always easy and truly appreciate the
collaborative intent with which the bargaining teams approached negotiations. We look
forward to continuing to work with our employees to improve both their working conditions
and the learning environments for our students.”
