WMS will showcase STEAM program at upcoming CA STEM conference in Anaheim CA

Wood Middle School has been selected to showcase our highly successful integrated and project based learning STEAM program at the upcoming CA STEM conference in Anaheim CA. Science, English Language Arts, Math and Art come together as teachers Pam Schaffer, Jessica Lucio, Matt Eding and Lindsay Shepard share their collaborative experience and expertise with other educators from around the state. The workshop features how these teachers work together across multiple subject areas to develop and implement a student -centered learning experience in which learners research, design, build, test and make their thinking visible through the creation of mousetrap powered race cars. During the project, students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills as they work through the challenges the project presents to them. Learners work together in small teams and develop collaboration skills , build their communication and technology skills while creating websites documenting their process and key learnings, use mathematics to explain and explore scientific principles and utilize the “Studio Habits of Mind” and Engineering Design processes to in order to transform their ideas into reality.
