Spring is a time for cleansing the body from winter’s hibernation. In the winter, we have a tendency to get sluggish, and so spring becomes the opportune time to shed heavier layers and clean the body of excess toxins in the tissues. We are naturally drawn to clean our homes, so why not also be inspired to give our body a good spring cleaning! Backbending postures are great for this season because they bring a sense of vitality to the system, and a connection to the heart. We will discuss how these postures connect to the heart chakra, and look at some simple ayurvedic practices that support the system during spring. Our postures will focus on opening the shoulders, chest, and hips. We will look at anatomy and modifications of different back bends, working towards variations of wheel, king pigeon, and camel. This workshop is great for anyone who has been practicing yoga for at least one year.
