The Albany Community Center was filled with young people and their families on Sunday, March 30, as the Albany Police Activities League (APAL) celebrated another successful year at their annual Recognition Dinner. After everyone had their fill of pizza, salad, and cake, the coaches and instructors of each APAL program spoke briefly about their specific activity and presented their participants with certificates. Lt. Daniel Adams of the Albany Police served as Master of Ceremonies with other members of the Police Department on hand to assist with the raffle and help in the kitchen.
Thank you to all who make the Albany Police Activities League a unique program which brings such diverse activities to the youth of Albany. You are truly appreciated.

This year a special thank you was given to three special women who work behind the scenes to keep APAL running smoothly.
We thank Sheila Rose for sharing her husband, Coach Rose with us every fall since 1999. She is a willing volunteer at the snack bar during every home tournament, making nachos, popcorn and other snacks.
Alice Ely has been a devoted supporter of APAL since the early days of wrestling. All 3 of her boys participated in the APAL program. When her husband, Jon became the coach of the crocodiles in 2005, she took on many of the administrative details. She helps keep track of the registration and the scheduling.
Anne Hsu became involved in the APAL program when her older son became a crocodile as a 1st grader in 2005. For many years she attended every practice with her two sons becoming the unofficial “team mom”, helping to orient new members. As Josh and Ben became members of aikido and Josh moved to middle school wrestling, Anne was always ready to help the coaches with any task that needed to be done.
A special guest at this year’s dinner was Officer Danny Ho of the Albany Police Department. Officer Ho grew up in Albany and was a member of APAL during his middle school years. He spoke about his experiences as a member of the basketball team under Coach Ron Bennett.
Thank you to Halpern Law Office for donating the pizza and to Safeway for their generous donation of a gift card to purchase food. Albany Pizza, your reduction in the cost per pizza is also appreciated.
