The popular T-REX Restaurant & Bar, located at 10th and Gilman (1300 10th Street) in Berkeley, is under new ownership.
The new owner is Matt Sturm, who also owns three successful San Francisco restaurants, including Solstice Restaurant & Lounge and Fly Bar & Restaurant (two locations).
T-REX was opened by the K2 Restaurant Group, in November 2005.

Matt has a message for people who love T-REX and who might be concerned about upcoming changes, “This is going to be fun! While we will focus on making incremental improvements in service, consistency in food and drinks, and finding ways to make the T-REX experience even more enjoyable, the core idea of T-REX will remain intact.”
T-REX will still be an upscale, but casual restaurant and bar that serves authentic barbecue, great steaks and seafood, and large selection of bar drinks.
The name will stay the same.
T-REX’s chef, Ryan Lafferty, will remain as will most the rest of the staff. With more support on the management side, Ryan will have more time to explore new menu items and improvements in existing items.

T-REX will be closed on Monday, September 17 and reopened Friday, September 21 to replace some of the older equipment, and for some general “spiffing up.”
When it reopens, T-REX will still be T-REX.
