April 11 Memorial Park Cleanup Includes Section B!
Section B - NOT-a-dog-park: The City gives us dirt, while we struggle to understand why other improvements are forbidden.
A reminder and call for volunteers! April 11 from 9 to Noon, with free t-shirts and pizza for participants!
Liam Kelly tells me he will furnish dirt and shovels for volunteers to improve the clearance under the timed gate which was installed at the north end of Section B.
All other suggestions were rejected, either because they involve putting structures in the space, or because Rec and Park wants the work done “by the pros”. It seems that even a post with poop bags and a disposal container would violate the current policies.

I recently visited the park with beagle Bella and my buddy Jack who is severely disabled after a bad accident. With no place to sit, no shade, and access to the water fountains cut off by the locked gate at the south end of the section, we had to leave after just a few minutes. I have been told that much of the current policy is driven by fear of threatened lawsuits by the park’s neighbors. A word to the wise!
Many of the regular users of Section B are, like me, retired people who regard dog ownership as an integral part of a healthy lifestyle enabling us to continue enjoying our wonderful community as long as possible. To deny us water, shade or a place to sit in our park is basically cruel and unnecessary.
