Berkeley Police Warn of Recent Rash of Van, Truck Thefts
Police remind residents to always lock the doors and avoid leaving any valuables in their car.

Berkeley police Tuesday warned residents that certain Ford vans and trucks have been stolen frequently in the western part of the city since the start of 2015. Since January, Berkeley police have seen an increase in auto thefts of Ford Econoline vans and F-Series trucks, particularly the Econoline E-250 and E-350 vans and F-250 and F-350 trucks.
Police advise not to leave valuable tools, equipment and other personal property in vehicles, noting that many recent thefts have occurred solely so tools or other equipment can be removed by the thief at a different location. Residents are advised to never leave their vehicle unlocked or running and to not leave a spare key near the vehicle.
An audible alarm system, visible anti-theft device, “kill switch” vehicle immobilization system or GPS tracking systems are also helpful in preventing thefts, police said.
