Albany Police Activities League Hosts Bicycle Rodeo on May 18

Fun, free event for elementary and middle school aged children focuses on safety with lots of activities and entertainment

The Albany Police Activities League would like to invite you to our annual bicycle rodeo on Saturday, May 18. This free event for elementary and middle school aged young people will be held from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Cornell School.

The goal of the bicycle rodeo is to encourage riders to wear helmets on every ride, to give young cyclists basic skills for on-road riding, and to teach them the rules of the road to help keep them safe. The first 100 participants will receive a free bicycle helmet.

Activities and entertainment will include bike inspections and a confidence course hosted by Cycles of Change. Pete Brandt, who has become a bicycle rodeo tradition, will perform his incredible flatland stunts. Local artist "Dede" Bostian will be creating amazing face paintings and Crime dog McGruff is rumored to be making an appearance. There will be a free raffle with many exciting prizes donated by local merchants.

Have you ever tasted a smoothie from a blender powered by peddling a bike?  This is a treat not to be missed. Albany Strollers and Rollers will be assisting with this as well as with helmet fitting.

The bicycle rodeo is a collaborative activity of APAL and the Albany Police Department in partnership with the City of Albany Safe Routes to Schools Grant.  We wish to thank all of our sponsors and raffle prize donors listed on below for their generous support and hope to see lots of young bicycle riders and their families at the bicycle rodeo.
