API Wins Employer Award

Local, fourth-generation family-owned business API receives employer award.

Congratulations to long-term Chamber member and supporter which was was awarded an Employer of the Year Appreciation Award by Rubicon Programs, another Chamber member.  API won the honor for employing five or more people from Rubicon’s training and employment readiness programs.

The Adhesive Products, Inc., API, is a 130-year-old, local family-owned company.  The company was founded in San Francisco in 1878 as a textile coatings manufacturer. Paul W. Shattuck purchased the company in 1933 and began its expansion. In 1948, API moved to a newly built facility in Albany, where it is still headquartered. The third and fourth generations of the Shattuck family now run the company. Paul E. Shattuck is President, and his daughter Trish Shattuck is Sales and Marketing Director.

API went green long before it was trendy. The company removed all solvents from its adhesives in 1981. In 1997 it began its Crafter’s Pick line of retail adhesives which are non-toxic and water-based. Local craft retailers can contact API at 510-526-7616, www.AdhesiveProductsInc.com.
