Blog: Safety Palooza—An Arresting Experience!

Safety Palooza was great fun this year! Thanks for coming & thanks to the businesses for donating raffle prizes & the rock wall.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our 2nd annual Open House, aka , at the on Sunday July 22nd. We had over 200 people come tour the station, try on our tactical gear, view the MADD DUI car and practice their observation skills at our challenge station. Police department staff enjoyed casual conversation and some serious Q&A with those in attendance.

Our dedicated volunteers made the day a success by ensuring proper fitting of bicycle helmets (given away for free by the ), the remote control police cars and other fun activities. The car burglary demonstration was a popular new addition to our event. This demonstration was designed to bring home the lesson about how important it is to not keep anything in your vehicle. Even an empty gym bag can be a temptation.

Big thanks to the Albany Peace Officers Association and the Albany Police Activities League who brought us the mobile rock climbing wall. It was great fun to see the children, and even a few adults, clamber their way to the top and sound the siren.
