The and the Albany Y recently hosted a summer session of Girls Rock! This program was designed specifically for middle school girls to foster self-esteem, help maintain authentic connection with other girls and adult women in their community, counter trends toward self-doubt, and allow for genuine self-expression through verbal sharing and creative activity. Along with the fun and creative group activities, girls went rock climbing and swimming.
Girls Rock is based on the Girls Circle curriculum and is designed to help girls learn empowering communications skills. In a small group setting girls are encouraged to express themselves in discussions and creative activities such as role playing, drawing, collage, drama and writing.
Be sure to look for the next session of Girls Rock! will be in the fall. Information will be posted on Albany Patch and on the APAL web site, www.albanypal.net and on our Facebook page.
