Happy Valentine's Day - From Your Kitty

Apologetic about all that bird and mammal predation, your kitty tries to win your heart. In the process, I bump into the Internet firewall around original research.

If only cats could afford Valentine's Day Cards! Recently implicated in the wholesale extermination of birds and other wildlife, they are hoping for some redemption. This kitty decided that a dead rodent wouldn't be appropriate.

Entering the link in the above paragraph, I experienced a little of the frustration that led Aaron Swartz to break into the M.I.T. archives. Recently released research on cat predation was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Fish and Game and the Smithsonian, but I can't link to it -- I'd have to pay $22 to Nature magazine for a PDF of the original paper. For all practical purposes, most of us are cut off from access to much of the real knowledge on the Internet. Here's more on Aaron Swartz from our cousin Dylan Tweney at Venturebeat.
