Consult with a vet regarding the healthy weight for your pet. In case your cat is too thin, it may be an indication for some health issues. Similarly a heavy kitty, though cuddly and cut, is definitely not a healthy kitty. Just like in human, excessive amount of fat can cause different sorts of health conditions and cat symptoms. Help your cat in maintaining a proper body weight and it will live longer.
Skin and Fur
- Fleas: When your cat is having problems with fleas, you can see it biting or scratching at the fur often. Make an appointment with your vet when you notice such problem in your pet.
- Grooming: Brush you cat on a regular basis in order to remove excessive fur. The coat should look smooth and shiny. Consult with a vet if you see any sore spots or lumps while brushing your cat.
- Shaving: But if your cat doesn’t like to be brushed, then it is better to get him shaved. Ask your vet if a trip to salon is proper for your pet.
Teeth and Gums
Many people don’t know that even cats need dental care. On every visit to the vet, the teeth and gums of your cat should be checked. Make sure the teeth of your cat are white and gums are pink. Tartar buildup and plague can turn teeth brown or yellow. This residue can be reduced through dental treatments.
Ears
Make sure you check the ears of your pet on a regular basis. If you see some black gunk or wax or notice bad smell, it may have an infection or ear mites. Immediately take him to the vet when you notice such conditions.
Nose
You don’t need to worry when you find that your pet’s nose is dry and warm instead of wet and cold. This doesn’t mean that he is ill.
Eyes
Being bushy-tailed and bright eyed applies to cats. The eyes of cats should be focused and bright. Be careful if you notice excessive amount of crustiness in the corners of your pet’s eyes.
Claws
You know well about the scratching habit of your cat. They scratch as a means to shed outer layer of the claws, as a form of exercise, and to mark their territory. Think twice if you are about to declawing your cat. Lots of people regard declawing as brutal, and even some European countries have restricted to do this. The process includes cutting off the bone of every toe. This can cause lots of behavior problems and long-term health issues in your pet. Rather than declawing, provide a good place to scratch to your cat.
