Ashby Station Reopens After BART Fatality

BART police are investigating the incident.

Update:

The Ashby BART station in Berkeley has reopened about two hours after a fatality was reported at the station. Reports of a person under a train there came in at 12:24 p.m., BART officials said. That person died on the tracks and the Alameda County coroner’s bureau was called there.

The station reopened at about 2:45 p.m., according to BART. BART police are investigating the incident.

A person under a BART train halted service at the Ashby station this afternoon, according to BART officials. BART police and firefighters responded to the scene, BART officials said. The condition of the person found in the trackway has not yet been determined, according to BART officials.

Trains are currently not running through the Ashby BART station. Northbound trains are being turned around at the MacArthur station and southbound trains are turning around at the North Berkeley station. BART officials are currently working on establishing a bus bridge but it is not yet in place.
