“You have cancer,” are some of the most frightening words a person can hear. I know because I have heard them two times, along with a couple of “You might haves.” I have lost two very good friends and a co-worker to cancer this year as well. Cancer affects all of us in some way.
As the Event Chair for Albany’s 2014 Relay for Life, I am teaming up with the American Cancer Society to help Fight Back to find a cure for this terrible disease. I am doing it for Pattie, Jewel, and Judy, and most of all so my son won’t ever have to hear the words, “You have cancer.” The donations American Cancer Society receives help fund cancer research as well as provide assistance to cancer patients in the way of a 24-hour hotline providing support and information, rides to treatments, and wigs and clothing to make them feel better, just to name a few.

We will be holding Albany’s Relay for Life on May 17th and 18th 2014 at Cougar Field and are currently looking for interested volunteers to help plan the event, as well as for Teams to walk, and of course -cancer survivors and caretakers to celebrate with, the day of the event. Relay for Life is all about celebrating the survivors and sponsoring more birthdays!
If you have any questions or know of anyone who might participate in any of these ways, please let me know, or have them contact me at kim.denton.albanyrelay2014@gmail.com or see our website, http://www.relayforlife.org/AlbanyCA
