District to Honor Pool Passes in Response to Community Concerns

The superintendent released this memo Monday evening.

After basking in the glow of the grand opening of the new Albany Aquatic Center, we are facing a number of small hurdles. The center is open and construction is winding down, but there is an extensive list of little items that need to be either replaced or repaired. This is normal after any new facility starts operations. We anticipate that the contractors will begin demobilization in two weeks.

We are facing a dilemma regarding the old "" that some people saved while we were under construction. After consulting with Director Garcia and the former Assistant Director Dunkle, the District determined that there were very few pool pass cards out in the community since the pool had been closed for four years. That, coupled with a break-in to the pool office shortly after closing, the District decided to start fresh with new pricing and passes.

While many people turned in their old passes for "one free swim," some patrons felt that the District should honor the old passes. Upon learning this, I decided to allow refunds for the passes if a receipt or cancelled check accompanied it. Since four-year-old receipts and cancelled checks are hard to find, the District will honor the old passes. For those patrons who have already turned in their cards please see Director Garcia.

While the aquatic center is first and foremost a facility for our students, we are pleased to be able to accommodate our community's desire for physical fitness and swim instruction by giving broad access to the pools. I would to thank Director Amanda Garcia for her dedication and hard work to get the facility up and running.
